Dr. Cao serves as the vice-director of National Clinical Research Centre for Respiratory Diseases, Peoples’ Republic of China. He is the vice-Director of the Center for Respiratory Diseases, China-Japan Friendship Hospital and Professor of Internal Medicine of Capital Medical University. He also acts as vice chair of Chinese Thoracic Society (CTS) since April 2017.

Dr. Cao graduated from Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) in 1998 with MD degree. He completed resident training in internal medicine in Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) from 1998 to 2003. From Feb 2003 till Sep 2006, worked as attendant in Department of Respiratory Medicine of PUMCH. From Oct 2006 to July 2015, he held the position of Director of Department of Infectious Diseases & Clinical Microbiology, Beijing Institute of Respiratory Medicine, Capital Medical University. In Aug 2015, he worked as professor of Department of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, China-Japan Friendship Hospital.

His research interests include pneumonia and influenza. He has 224 papers published in international and national journals. His recent publications include two original articles on H7N9 in New England Journal of Medicine (April and May 2013), and an article on management of H1N1 in the Ann Intern Med (August 2011) and another paper on clinical features of H1N1 in New England Journal of Medicine (December 2009).

Professor Cao acts as associate editor of Clinical Respiratory Journal and editorial board member of the Chinese Journal of Mycology, Chinese Journal for Clinicians and Chinese Journal of Respiratory & Critical Care Medicine. He also serves as committee member of Antiviral Group (AVG) of International Society of Influenza and other respiratory virus Diseases (ISIRV), and member of Respiratory & Infectious Disease branch under the Chinese Society of Respiratory Disease. He had the honor of 15th Wu JiePing-Paul Janssen Medical-Pharmaceutical Award in 2014 and 14th Mao Yi-Sheng Beijing Youth Science and Technology Award in 2011. He received China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists in 2014 and grant from “New Century Excellent Talents Support Program” of Ministry of Education in 2010.
