This special interest group arose from three successful meetings of researchers who study non-human and non-avian reservoired influenza viruses.

It is envisaged that the Neglected Influenza Viruses Special Interest Group will:

Promote the exchange of knowledge relating influenza viruses reservoired in non-human and non-avian hosts

Promote a multidisciplinary “One Health” approach to the investigation of these viruses.

Facilitate the formation of strategic alliances to enable the pooling of resources, transfer of technology and international exchange programs.

Engage all stakeholders including the private sector in animal health surveillance and vaccine improvement.

Address gaps in our knowledge of the behavior and zoonotic potential of influenza viruses.

Collaborate with OFFLU and other organizations to co-ordinate an animal influenza applied research agenda.

Organize an international meeting every two to three years.

Publish selected research findings presented at the meeting in a special issue of the ISIRV Journal.
