isirv Neglected Influenza Viruses Group (NIVG)       NIVG Committee

This special interest group arose from three successful meetings of researchers who study non-human and non-avian reservoired influenza viruses.

It is envisaged that the Neglected Influenza Viruses Special Interest Group will

  • Promote the exchange of knowledge relating influenza viruses reservoired in non-human and non-avian hosts
  • Promote a multidisciplinary “One Health” approach to the investigation of these viruses.
  • Facilitate the formation of strategic alliances to enable the pooling of resources, transfer of technology and international exchange programs.
  • Engage all stakeholders including the private sector in animal health surveillance and vaccine improvement.
  • Address gaps in our knowledge of the behavior and zoonotic potential of influenza viruses.
  • Collaborate with OFFLU and other organizations to co-ordinate an animal influenza applied research agenda.
  • Organize an international meeting every two to three years.
  • Publish selected research findings presented at the meeting in a special issue of the ISIRV Journal.
