Otfried Kistner (PhD) is currently working as Senior Consultant for several international and national companies and organisations.

·    30+ years of experience in conducting scientific research in the fields of virology and 25+ years of experience in industrial vaccine development.

·    Areas of expertise include infectious diseases, virology, vaccine development; immunology, regulatory affairs, cell culture, bioassay development and validation, animal models, GXP (GLP, GMP, GCP, GDP, GCLP), quality control, biological safety, strategic planning, technical due diligence and strategic market positioning.

·    Team player, and extensive experience in leadership and employee management.

·     Broad working knowledge in cross-disciplined matrix environment.

In his different executive R&D management positions he had also main responsibilities in defining and organizing the serology of clinical studies and being the R&D point of contact for internal and external relationships. His responsibilities included the development of a range of viral vaccines such as Influenza (seasonal and pandemic), SARS Coronavirus, Smallpox vaccines of 2nd and 3rd generation, West Nile, Ross River, and Chikungunya as well as new antigen delivery and adjuvant technologies. Otfried was one of the main contributors in the development, production and licensure of cell culture-derived seasonal and pandemic influenza vaccines i.e. H5N1 (Mock Up and pre-pandemic) and 2009 pandemic H1N1.

Otfried has authored or co-authored more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and has given more than 200 presentations at International Scientific Conferences, International Expert Meetings and workshops. He also acts as reviewer of a number of scientific journals as well as Chair or as member of scientific committees of international conferences.

In addition, Otfried is lecturer at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, Austria and at the IMC University of Applied Sciences, Krems, Austria on Virology, Vaccinology as well as vaccine development and industrial scale production.
