Pr. van der Werf is Professor at the University Paris Diderot and Head of the Molecular Genetics of RNA Viruses Unit at the Institut Pasteur. She is also Director of the coordinating centre of the National Reference Centre for Respiratory Viruses, Director of a WHO National Influenza Centre (Northern-France) and a WHO H5 Reference Laboratory. At the University Paris Diderot she is responsible for a master program in Immunology, Microbiology, Virology and Infectious Diseases. Sylvie is Director of the Department of Infectiology-Microbiology of the Doctoral School Bio-Sorbonne Paris Cité. Pr. van der Werf regularly serves as an expert on committees of national and international Public Health bodies (French MOH, ECDC, WHO). She is an associate editor of Eurosurveillance and a member of several professional societies (ASM, SGM, ESCMID, ESWI, ISIRV).
Within ISIRV, Sylvie is a member of the AVG Executive Committee, and hosted the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) of Viruses Meeting in Paris in 2015. She has contributed to many isirv meetings: as chairperson (e.g. 4th isirv Antiviral Group Conference, 2015, Texas; Centenary of the 1918 Pandemic Symposium, 2018, London) or as invited speaker (e.g. Incidence, Severity, and Impact of Influenza, 2012, Munich, and 2016, Paris; Summer School on influenza, 2011 and 2012, Siena).
