Strategy Development and Partnerships Manager

Part-time on a consultancy basis

The International Society for Influenza and other Respiratory Virus Diseases (isirv) is a global scientific association, bringing together and developing services for researchers and clinicians engaged in confronting Influenza, RSV, MERS-CoV and other respiratory virus diseases. It acts within an environment that includes regional networks as well as intergovernmental organisations such as the World Health Organisation.

Created in 2005, isirv has a membership of over 1400 medical scientists, clinicians and public health officials. The Society holds a major influenza conference every three years and a series of other scientific meetings. It also manages a journal, Influenza and other Respiratory Viruses, and a website reflecting the Society’s activities and the interests of its members.

This is a new role to help expand the Society’s activities, through collaboration with other organisations, nurturing relations with companies to support its scientific and educational programme, and providing governance support to the Board. It requires someone with international experience, able to act at a senior level.

As isirv has no offices, the person will work from home and could be based in any country, although the current centre of activity is London, United Kingdom.

A new international scientific journal will be the first exclusively devoted to influenza and other respiratory virus diseases.

New Group is announced - International Respiratory Syncytial Virus Society

In mid-2017, the International Respiratory Syncytial Virus Society became a special interest group of isirv.

The IRSVS is a global independent group of RSV professionals, with members from all continents working on all research fronts. The IRSVS’s goal is to ensure that there is a succession of venues to share scientific information and accelerate the development of strategies to reduce the impact of RSV infection.

Lance Jennings, Chairman of isirv, announced the new arrangement in his New Year letter to isirv members. He said, “I am pleased to let you know that the International Respiratory Syncytial Virus Society became another Special Interest Group of isirv in 2017.”

Peter Openshaw, Chairman of IRSVS said: “I am delighted that the long-established informal society has now formally become the International RSV Society under the auspices of isirv. It will strengthen our 20 year mission to enhance basic and applied studies of RSV and give us the enormous benefits of isirv’s services and support. I look forward to working within isirv in a mutually beneficial and successful partnership.”
