The Lars Haaheim Travel Fellowship
Professor Lars Haaheim was a world-renowned influenza teacher and research scientist at the University of Bergen, Norway until his untimely death in 2011. Lars was also one of the founder members of ISIRV and a strong advocate of the "School of Influenza" concept. The first Summer School was co-organised by Lars and Emanuele Montomoli from the University of Siena. In memory of Lars Haaheim and through a generous donation from Lars’ widow Vigdis, we have created the "Lars Haaheim Travel Fellowship" to allow selected students to attend the School of Influenza 2016. Selection of students The students were selected by a Fellowship Committee consisting of two members of the organising committee one of which was an isirv officer. The selection criteria included: · Age below 35 · An investigator at the start of their career · Provision of CV to include the reasons for requesting the award · Supporting letter from supervisor · Preference given to student from a resource-poor country · Any time off for parental leave was taken into consideration Use of Fellowship The Fellowship was used to pay all the student’s costs (registration fee, board and accommodation, travel). Closing date for applications and contacts The Fellowship closing date was 31 January 2016 - this was seven weeks before the closing date for registration on the School of Influenza (21 March 2016) - and the decision was made by the end of February. |
